Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Goldeyes announced their American Association regular season schedule today for the team's 20th Anniversary Season and it's loaded with familiar and unfamiliar opponents.

The Goldeyes will begin defence of their American Association title on May 17 with a date against the Grand Prairie AirHogs at QuikTrip Park in Texas on Opening Day. It will be the first time the two teams will play each other after not meeting in Winnipeg's first two seasons in the American Association. After three games against the AirHogs, the Goldeyes will visit the Amarillo Sox for three games and the Lincoln Saltdogs for four games.

The South Division Champion Laredo Lemurs will travel to Winnipeg for the Goldeyes home opener on May 27. It will be Laredo's first visit to Winnipeg. The two sides faced each other in a three-game series in Laredo last May. The season-opening homestand also includes a three-game series with the North Division rival Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.

In a rematch of last season's American Association Championship Series, the Goldeyes will entertain the Wichita Wingnuts for three games from June 10-13.

After dipping their toe in the water by hosting the Quebec Les Capitales in the first season of interleague play with the CanAm League last summer, the Goldeyes are diving in this year with five series and 17 games against CanAm League opponents. Winnipeg will host two CanAm League teams in 2013. The first visit will be June 14-16 and the second will be July 26-29. The Goldeyes will also make a visit to the CanAm League for the first time in franchise history. The team will depart east on July 10 and play 10 games during the trip. Winnipeg's CanAm League opponents will be announced at a later date.

The 2013 regular season will conclude with a seven-game homestand against North Division opponents. The St. Paul Saints will be at Shaw Park from August 27-30 and, for the third consecutive season, Fargo will visit the Goldeyes for three games from August 31-September 2 to complete the schedule.

In all, 11 different teams will come to Shaw Park this season, which is the most in franchise history. The Goldeyes will play 40 games against the North Division, 34 games against the Central Division, 17 games against the CanAm League and nine games against the South Division.

The Winnipeg Goldeyes Field of Dreams Foundation annual golf tournament will take place Thursday, May 30 at Bel Acres Golf and Country Club.
