LAREDO, TX - The Laredo Lemurs have released their much anticipated 2013 schedule highlighted by the home opener scheduled for Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 7:30pm against the 2012 Northern Division Champs Fargo-Morehead Redhawks. The Lemurs play the Redhawks in a four-game series before taking on the Grand Prairie AirHogs in a three game series to finish off the opening seven-game home stand.
The rest of the Lemurs 2013 schedule is highlighted by 30 of its 50 home games falling on a Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday. The Lemurs will bring back Miller Lite Thirsty Thursdays where fans can enjoy $1.00 beer all night long. Friday nights will again feature post game fireworks. Saturday nights will also include a Lemurs giveaway item and Tuesdays will again be "Two for Tuesdays".
All game times for home games will be at 7:30 with the exception of Wednesday, May 22nd at 10:00am and Sunday, June 2nd at 2:00pm.
The Lemurs anticipate resigning many of their popular players from the 2012 season including Jimmy Mojica (.339 avg, 9 HR, 61 RBI's), John Allen (.331 avg, 11 HR, 59 RBI's) and Palmer Karr (.337 avg, 12 HR, 50 RBI's).
On the pitching side, RHP's Mark Haynes, Kyle Wilson and Mike Benacka are expected to return along with LHP's Edwin Walker and Ryan Sasaki. The Lemurs saw two of its best pitchers, RHP closer Chaz Roe and LHP starter Matt Way be signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Roe, arguably one of the best pitchers in the American Association, finished the season with a 3-2 record, 1.47 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 55 innings.
The Lemurs are coming off their inaugural season which saw the Lemurs win the Southern Division in dramatic fashion finishing 23-8 over the last month of the season. The Lemurs went on to lose in the first round of the playoffs to central Division champions Wichita Wingnuts. The Wingnuts lost to the eventual League Champions Winnipeg Goldeyes.
