Goldeyes Fall to Saints in Series Opener

Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

Adam Heisler got the Winnipeg Goldeyes rolling early Monday night. The only problem is the rolling quickly went the other way.

After a 1-0 second inning lead, the Goldeyes couldn't score another run and lost 8-1 to the St. Paul Saints at Shaw Park to open a quick three-game homestand.

Nic Jackson doubled to lead off the bottom of the second and went to third on a one-out Jon Weber groundout. St. Paul then intentionally walked Luis Alen to get to Heisler, who drilled a pitch over the head of Saints left fielder Mitch Elliot.

However, the first-place Saints proceeded to score in three consecutive innings - two in the third, once in the fourth and three in the fifth - off Goldeyes starter Rob Nixon to take a 6-1 lead.

Angelo Songco capped the scoring for St. Paul with a two-run home run off Winnipeg reliever Tony Smith in the top of the ninth.

The Goldeyes only had three hits in the game - one each from Heisler, Jackson and Brady Wilson - and Heisler had the only RBI.

Nixon suffered the loss for Winnipeg after giving up six runs in five innings of work. St. Paul starter Drew Gay picked up the win.

Game 2 of the three-game set goes Tuesday night at Shaw Park. The Goldeyes will send ace Nick Hernandez (2-1, 1.39) to the mound against St. Paul's ace Dustin Crenshaw (4-1, 1.50).

Tickets for the series with the Saints and all Goldeyes games in 2015 are available through Ticketmaster by clicking on Goldeyes.com, calling 1-855-GOLDEYE or visiting any Ticketmaster location, including the Shaw Park box office.
