Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

Deep into a pennant race, the Winnipeg Goldeyes squandered one Wednesday night.

The Goldeyes failed to capitalize on chances early in the ball game and watched the Rockford RiverHawks blow it open late to beat Winnipeg 9-3.

Down 3-1 in the fifth inning, Winnipeg loaded the bases with the first three batters, but could only score one run when Dee Brown touched home plate off an Aharon Eggleston groundout.

Rockford took a 5-2 lead with a pair of runs in the eighth inning and Jono Brooks hit a three-run home run as part of a four-run ninth to finish off the Goldeyes.

Winnipeg added a single run in the ninth inning.

Juan Diaz went 2-for-2 at the plate for Winnipeg, while Dee Brown was 2-for-4 and scored a run.

Ace Walker went seven and a third innings as the Goldeyes starter, giving up five runs, while striking out two. He took the loss.

Kyle Wright pitched eight innings for the win.

The RiverHawks take the series 2-1 with the win and leapfrog Winnipeg for fifth place in the Northern League.

Winnipeg continues this seven-day, nine-game home stand with a doubleheader against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks Thursday night. It's the first two of six games between Winnipeg and Fargo at Canwest Park this weekend. Saturday also features a double dip.

Game time Thursday night is 6:00 p.m. Great seats are available by visiting any Ticketmaster location or by calling 780-3333.
