Joliet JackHammers News Release

JOLIET, IL - The Joliet JackHammers made a series of roster moves before the 11:59 p.m. Northern League deadline, acquiring All-Star catcher, Richard Mercado, from Schaumburg for future considerations. The team also released right-handed reliever, Kyle Dahman, and catcher, Rafael Mendez.

Mercado, 27, joins the JackHammers after spending almost two years with Schaumburg. He was selected as one of the two catchers to represent the Northern League in the All-Star Game this season. In 81 games with Schaumburg, Mercado hit .286 with seven home runs and 43 runs batted in.

Last season with the Flyers, his first in independent baseball, Mercado hit .259 with seven long balls and 33 runs batted in.

The team also released Kyle Dahman and Rafael Mendez, which puts the current active roster at 21.
