Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
Monday night at Shaw Park, the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks hit just about everything that was thrown at them.
The RedHawks pounded out 17 hits en route to a 9-2 victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes as Fargo took the final four-game series between the two teams this season, 3-1.
There was no doubt about this one from the moment Fargo catcher Luke Bailey led off the second inning with a line-drive home run high off the top of the leftfield foul pole. That got the RedHawks started as Fargo proceeded to score three in the second and one in the fourth off Goldeyes starter Edwin Carl and then they put it away with three in the seventh and one each in the eighth and ninth.
With the defeat, the Goldeyes fell to 43-50 on the season and will now have to win their final seven straight games at home in order to finish the season .500.
Winnipeg scored both of their runs in the bottom of fourth and actually cut Fargo's lead to 4-2 as Tillman Pugh singled, Brad Boyer singled and Luis Alen singled to drive home Pugh. With two out, Adam Heisler singled home Boyer and Winnipeg was back in the game.
However, Carl was taken out after six complete and the bullpen was roughed up for five runs over the final three innings.
The Goldeyes finished with two runs on eight hits. Boyer led the way with two hits and a run scored while Reggie Abercrombie also had a two-hit night. Adam Heisler had an RBI single in five trips and extended his hitting streak to a career-high 16 games. He leads the Goldeyes with a .326 batting average.
Taylor Stanton (5-4, 4.42 ERA) got the win for Fargo while Carl (5-1, 2.51 ERA) suffered his first loss of the season. Carl had seven strikeouts in six innings of work while, in total, four Goldeyes pitchers struck out 12 RedHawks. Rookie Nick Cooney picked up a three-inning save, his first as a professional, for Fargo.
The Goldeyes will open a four-game series against the Sioux Falls Canaries on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. at Shaw Park. The game can be heard live on The Jewel 100.5 with Steve Schuster at the microphone.
