Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

The dress rehearsal can hardly be counted as an indication of what the opening performance will be like. However, the Winnipeg Goldeyes final dress rehearsal before Opening Day was a very solid performance.

Goldeyes pitching surrendered just one run over seven innings in a 4-1 win over the Kansas City T-Bones Tuesday night before a modest crowd at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Winnipeg starter Matt Rusch got the Goldeyes off to a great start by pitching four scoreless innings. Despite finding a bit of trouble early on, he surrendered just one hit, while striking out three and walking one.

"The first inning was a little rough," said Rusch. "I need to command the zone a little bit better, stop nitpicking a little bit and just put it over the plate. As the game progressed, I was able to get a little bit more of my tilt back and was able to command a bit better in the zone."

Winnipeg strung together four consecutive hits in the second inning to get on the board. Luis Alen and Matt Cusick both singled and then scored on a Josh Mazzola double. Mazzola then scored a batter later on a double by Amos Ramon.

"I feel good," said Ramon, who had two doubles in the game. "It's starting to get come back now and I feel like I am ready for the season."

Kansas City scored their lone run in the bottom of the fifth inning via three singles, which finally scored Aric Weinberg from third.

Yurendell de Caster led off the sixth inning with a solo home run to right field, giving Winnipeg a 4-1 lead.

Aside from Rusch, Fabian Williamson, Chris Kaminski, Dexter Carter and Nick Carr pitched for Winnipeg.

With the win, the Goldeyes finished the pre-season with a 3-2-1 record.

After staying tonight in Kansas City, the Goldeyes will travel to Amarillo tomorrow for two days of workouts before facing the Sox on Friday in the season opener.

Winnipeg will send Ace Walker to the mound on Opening Day, while Amarillo will counter with southpaw Chuck Lofgren. Game time is 7:00 p.m. The pre-game show on TSN 1290 with Paul Edmonds starts at 6:30 p.m.
