Goldeyes Comeback to Win Third in a Row
June 27, 2015 - American Association (AA)
Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
Starter Matt Jackson didn't have his best stuff on Saturday night and the Winnipeg Goldeyes were behind before they started.
In the final game of a three-game set at Sioux Falls Stadium, the hometown Sioux Falls Canaries tagged Jackson for four runs in the third, three in the fourth and two more in the sixth as Sioux Falls went on to beat the Goldeyes 11-3.
By the time Winnipeg put a run on the board, the Canaries were already ahead 4-0. After the Fish made it 4-2 in the top of the fourth, Sioux Falls put up another crooked number in the bottom half of the inning, it was 7-3.
With the loss, the Goldeyes' three-game winning streak was halted and the Fish fell to 15-19 on the season. However, the Goldeyes did win the series 2-1 and are now 11-11 on the road this season.
Sioux Falls finished Saturday night's encounter with 11 runs on 17 hits. Jackson gave up nine runs on 14 hits in five innings of work. With the Goldeyes bullpen so worn out, manager Rick Forney needed Jackson to go at least five innings.
The Goldeyes scored three runs on nine hits. Newcomer Omar Artsen led the way with a hit in three trips and two runs batted in. Adam Heisler, who drove in Winnipeg's third run, and Josh Mazzola each had two hits - the only multi-hit games of the evening for Winnipeg.
Sioux Falls starter Miguel Pena (5-2, 2.57 ERA) got the win with the first complete game of his independent baseball career. Goldeyes starter Jackson (2-4, 6.53 ERA) was tagged with the loss.
The Goldeyes will have Sunday off and then, on Monday night, they'll open a seven-game homestand at Shaw Park. Monday night the Fish will play the first of four against the Sioux City Explorers at 7:00 p.m. After Sioux City leaves town, Hal Lanier and the Ottawa Champions arrive in Winnipeg for a three-game weekend series.
Tickets for all Goldeyes home games in 2015 are available through Ticketmaster by clicking on Goldeyes.com, calling 1-855-GOLDEYE or visiting any Ticketmaster location, including the Shaw Park box office.
