Saints Jazz It up with 5-2 Win over RedHawks

FARGO, ND - With all due respect to Dr. John, who played the first concert at CHS Field on Saturday night, St. Paul Saints number nine hitter Dan Kaczrowski was in the Right Place at the Right Time at Newman Outdoor Field. His three-run homer and career high four RBI performance helped guide the Saints to a 5-2 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, improving the club to 28-7.

In the second inning Angelo Songco roped a one out double to left. With two outs Joey Paciorek walked. Anthony Phillips singled to center scoring Songco and giving the Saints a 1-0 lead. That brought up Kaczrowski who was 1-16 since his return to the team he played for in 2009 and 2013. He got a pitch up and in and crushed a three-run blast off the light tower in left, his first of the season, to give the Saints a 4-0 lead.

The rains came in the bottom of the third and, after an hour and seven minute rain delay, Saints starter Kramer Sneed didn't have his command. With one out he walked Frank Salerno. Charlie Valerio followed with a single and Sneed subsequently walked the next two hitters to force in a run and make it 4-1. He settled down to strike out the next two hitters to end the inning. Sneed would go 6.0+ innings allowing just the one run on four hits while walking five and striking out six and became the first pitcher in the American Association to reach six wins.

The Saints got an insurance run in the eighth, once again from Kaczrowski. Mike Kvasnicka singled, moved to second on a sacrifice and scampered to third on a Phillips single. Kaczrowski lifted a sacrifice fly to center that scored Kvasnicka to make it 5-1. Kaczrowski finished the night 1-3 with a home run, four RBI and a run scored.

In the ninth the RedHawks attempted a comeback. With Drew Gay on the mound former Saint Joe Bonfe tripled off the left field wall and scored on an errant throw to third from Phillips. After a strikeout Gay gave up an infield single to Brent Peterson. Gay was lifted for Ryan Rodebaugh, but he walked Salerno. Rodebaugh settled down and struck out Charlie Valerio and got Chad Mozingo to ground into a fielder's choice to end the game. Rodebaugh earned his seventh save in as many chances.

The same two teams meet in the finale of the four game series on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. The Saints send RHP Jeff Shields (5-0, 3.31) to the mound against RedHawks RHP Tyler Herron (2-3, 3.89). The game can be heard on Club 1220 KLBB.
