Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

A day removed from seeing the opposition comeback in the ninth inning, the Winnipeg Goldeyes looked for their own last-at-bat magic Wednesday night.

With Wes Long on first and Juan Diaz the winning run at the plate, Diaz hit a long fly ball that didn't quite have enough mustard on it and the Goldeyes lost 7-6 to the Lake County Fielders.

Kevin West hit a solo home run in the eighth inning to bring the Goldeyes to within a run.

Lake County jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the third inning, but Winnipeg clawed back and tied the game 5-5 with a four-run sixth inning.

West went 3-for-4 in the game, while Luis Alen hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning.

Garrett Sherrill grabbed the win for the Fielders, while Brandon Forshee takes the loss for Winnipeg. Chris Homer earns his sixth save of the season and second in as many nights.

Goldeyes Notes

Winnipeg has now lost three of its last four games.

The Fish are now two games below .500 for the first time this season.

All six of the Goldeyes losses to the Fielders have been by two runs or less.

West's home run in the eighth was his first since June 26.

Alen now has seven hits in his last three games.
