RiverHawks Blow Past JackHammers 11-1

Mike Wood tossed a complete game and the Rockford RiverHawks (24-29) pounded out 11 runs and 16 hits to upend the Joliet JackHammers (28-25) 11-1 Tuesday night in front of 4,261 at Silver Cross Field. The loss dropped the JackHammers to 4-4 against the RiverHawks this season.

Rockford scored in the first four frames, taking advantage of four Joliet errors. Jono Brooks and Kevin House collected RBI singles in the second against Devin Anderson (3-2) for a 3-0 lead.

Patrick O'Sullivan homered in the third and three came around in the fourth. Brooks doubled and Ian Church was gunned down at home after starting the frame with a single. House would follow with a base hit and score on a Kevin Rios error off the bat of Jake Eigsti. Travis Scott knocked out Anderson with a bases loaded single, driving home two to put Rockford out in front 7-0.

Anderson was charged with four earned runs in 3.2 innings, allowing 11 hits while striking out one. Wes Alsup came on and struck out five in 2.1 frames with Brian Gartley tossing the final three in the setback.

The JackHammers finally got to Wood in the ninth, scoring on a Ryan Wehrle single to right. Brad Correll and Chris Colton each singled with Correll scoring on the Wehrle base hit for the 11-1 final.

Wood went the distance, surrendering the one run on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks to earn his first victory of the season.

Scott and McArthur led the RiverHawks with two runs batted in while Brooks collected a game high four hits.

Correll went 2-4 with a double and run scored and was the only JackHammer to record a multi-hit game.

The JackHammers and RiverHawks will be back at it tomorrow night in game three of the four game set. Kyle Ruwe (3-5) and Bear Bay (4-4) is the starting pitching matchup. First pitch is set for 6:10 p.m. with a 6:00 p.m. pre-game show on 1340 WJOL.
