Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

The league-leading Winnipeg Goldeyes dropped the middle game of a three-game set to the Joliet JackHammers tonight, falling 2-0 in a lifeless effort before 5,906 at Canwest Park.

Joliet opened the scoring off Mark Michael in the second. Joe Gaetti singled with one out, stole second and went to third when catcher Jeff DeSmidt's throw ended up in centre. With two out, Kyle Nichols doubled and it was 1-0. It became 2-0 in the fifth. Adam Klein drew a lead-off walk, stole second, went to third on a Vince Harrison ground out and scored on a Brad Correll single.

Blanked through five by Devin Anderson while held to just two hits, the Goldeyes weren't a whole lot more successful against the JackHammers bullpen, mustering just four hits and a walk over the final four innings. But they did make it interesting in the ninth. After striking out the first two batters, Drew Shetrone gave up a double to Cody Ehlers before an Adam Frost single sent Ehlers to third. Kurt Crowell pinch hit for DeSmidt but struck out swinging to end it.

Anderson (1-3) picked up the win, allowing just two singles with four walks and five strikeouts over five shutout innings. Michael (2-3) took the loss after allowing both runs on four hits over five innings, walking four while tossing a season-high seven strikeouts. Shetrone picked up his fourth save after striking out the side in the ninth.

This series concludes Thursday at 7 p.m. Bear Bay is up for the Goldeyes while Derek Barrows replies for the JackHammers. Great seats starting at just $5 are available at all Ticketmaster locations, including the ballpark box office, by calling 780-3333 or visiting ticketmaster.ca.
