Hartford Yard Goats News Release
HARRISBURG, PA - Catcher Brian Serven knocked in three runs and starting pitcher Brandon Gold won his first game since June 24, leading the Hartford Yard Goats to an 8-4 win over the Harrisburg Senators Thursday night, before 3,378 at FNB Field. The Yard Goats took the rubber game of the three-game set, their first series win since July 4-7 against Trenton.
Hartford (17-23) put the game away, erupting for five runs in the fourth inning. Tyler Nevin started the onslaught with his sixth home run of the season, an opposite-field blast into the right-field bullpen. After starting pitcher Kyle McGowin hit Luis Castro with a pitch, Alan Trejo followed with a double and Mylz Jones walked. Serven's ground ball then bounced away from third baseman David Masters, and when he threw home, after recovering the ball, two more runs scored. Carlos Herrera followed with a sacrifice fly to close out the scoring in the inning.
The Yard Goats added two runs in the fifth on Serven's two-run double. Meanwhile, the Senators, who took a 1-0 lead in the first, got to Gold for two runs in the fifth led by RBI-singles by Luis Garcia and Ian Sagdal. Nick Banks added a solo homer for Harrisburg (18-21) in the sixth off of reliever Rayan Gonzalez.
Gold, who improved to 8-5, allowed three runs on seven hits over five innings. He walked two and struck out six. Gonzalez and Tate Scioneaux combined for four innings of one-run baseball. The dynamic duo retired the last 11 Harrisburg batters.
Serven's double and three RBI paced Hartford's offense. Garcia had three hits, a run scored and RBI for Harrisburg. McGowin, who dropped to 0-1, pitched 3 2/3 innings and allowed six runs - five earned - on five hits. He walked two and struck out four.
The win was Hartford's fourth in 12 games against Harrisburg this season.
The Yard Goats return home to open a three-game series against the Trenton Thunder on Friday at 7:05 p.m. RHP Antonio Santos will pitch for Hartford, while RHP Nick Nelson draws the starting assignment for the Yankees' affiliate. The game will be broadcast on News Radio 1410 AM, on 100.9 FM, in Spanish on 1120 AM and on the Internet on newsradio1410.iheart.com and on MiLB.com. It will be Irish Heritage Night with a fireworks display, following the game.
