Colorado Eagles News Release
WINDSOR, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles, proud affiliate of the NHL's Winnipeg Jets & the AHL's St. John's IceCaps, announced today the signing of goaltender Mike Garman. A Vail, Colo. native, the rookie is the second goalie signing announced by the team -- joining Kyle Jones -- as the Eagles head into their preseason camp in preparation for their first ECHL season.
Garman (6-foot-1, 195-pounds) spent the past three seasons at Cornell University, playing sparingly in his first two. In 19 games last season, however, the left-handed catching netminder posted stellar stats, going 8-8-1 with a 2.21 goals-against average and a .928 save percentage. He graduated after his third collegiate year with hopes of starting his professional hockey career.
"Mike had an outstanding season last year and he's a young, hungry goalie. His drive, work ethic and demeanor remind me a lot of a young Tyler Weiman when he first came here in 2004," said Eagles general manager & head coach Chris Stewart.
Prior to attending Cornell, Garman played two seasons with the Nanaimo Clippers in the British Columbia Hockey League. Combined, he went 43-18-0, with a 2.71 GAA and a .895 SV%. In 2007-08, he helped guide the team to the BCHL's regular season title.
The Eagles will begin their preseason camp this Friday, Sept. 30. They will then travel to Alaska for preseason games on Oct. 4 & 5 before playing their only preseason game at the Budweiser Events Center on Friday, Oct. 7 against the Las Vegas Wranglers.
The 2011-12 ECHL regular season begins on Friday, Oct. 14, with the Eagles' home-opener taking place on Friday, Oct. 21. A complete schedule can be found at www.ColoradoEagles.com.
