Eleven Royals Participating in AHL Training Camps

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that eleven players signed to an ECHL contract with the Royals are participating in AHL training camps. Four of those players also attended rookie and/or training camps with NHL teams. The Royals placed players in the NHL camps of three different teams-the Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers and Los Angeles Kings-and four different AHL teams-the Marlies, Providence Bruins, Syracuse Crunch and Hershey Bears.

Defensemen Denny Urban and Dave Cowan have participated in the rookie and training camps for the Maple Leafs and are now in camp with the Marlies. Joining those two with the Marlies are forward Chad Painchaud and defenseman Ray Macias, who also attended the Los Angeles Kings' NHL camp. Defenseman Derrick LaPoint participated in the NHL rookie tournament with the Florida Panthers is currently attending AHL camp with the Syracuse Crunch along with defenseman Chris Nutini. The Royals have three players currently in camp with the Providence Bruins of the AHL: forwards Everett Sheen and Richard Purslow and defenseman Marvin Degon. Reading also placed two players, forwards Olivier Labelle and Phil Aucoin, with the AHL's Hershey Bears. The Royals kick off training camp on Friday night (September 30, 7:30 - 9:00 pm) at the Sovereign Center. That practice, as with all of the Royals pre-season training camp on-ice sessions, is open to the public.

The Royals will face the Cincinnati Cyclones in the team's 2011-12 home opener on Saturday, October 22, 2011, at 7:05 pm at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. The team kicks off the season on the road against the South Carolina Stingrays in North Charleston, South Carolina, on Friday, October 14 (7:05 pm). That game, as with all Royals' road games this year, will be televised live courtesy of Royals TV presented by Boscov's Travel and Royal Caribbean Cruise lines in Berks County, Pennsylvania, on BCTV.
