Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
The Salmon Kings came into tonight's game looking to rebound after Friday evening's disappointing loss at the hands of the Grizzlies. When the dust had cleared Victoria was on the right end of a hard fought 2-1 victory.
Utah applied early pressure and it paid off as Keith Johnson collected his on rebound and snuck a shot past King's goaltender Julien Ellis. Victoria responded on the power play as Ryan Wade blasted a point shot past Grizzlies goaltender Mike Mole after Kevin Estrada had cleanly won the faceoff. The teams would go to the locker room 1-1 after 20 minutes.
The Salmon Kings started to find some open ice in the second period, and the game began to open up. This paid benefits as Wes Goldie drew a penalty and the Kings were able to score on the ensuing power play. Kevin Estrada tucked the rebound of a Gary Gladue point shot past Mole for the 2-1 lead. The remainder of the second period saw both teams have many scoring opportunities. The Kings led 2-1 after two periods of play.
The third period was action packed with Kings goaltender Ellis making a plethora of saves none more spectacular then a 2-0 to keep Victoria up by a goal. The Salmon Kings continued to hold the Grizzlies at bay and held on for a 2-1 victory.
The Salmon Kings went 2/4=50% on the power play and the Grizzlies were 0/7=0%. Utah outshot Victoria 48-21.
These two teams conclude their three game set on Monday night at 6:05 p.m. PT at the E-Center in West Valley City, Utah. The game is available on the B2 Networks just go to www.salmonkings.com for all the action.
