Capital City Go-Go News Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Capital City Go-Go (1-0), the NBA G League affiliate of the Washington Wizards, overcame an early 19-0 deficit to comeback and beat the Westchester Knicks (0-1) 107-103 on Friday night at the Entertainment and Sports Arena.

The game marked Capital City's first since March 7, 2020 and first home game since March 2, 2020. It was also the first game under new Head Coach Mike Williams and General Manager Amber Nichols.

Westchester raced out to a 19-0 lead early in the first and pushed its lead to as many as 22 midway through the quarter. The Knicks led by double-figures throughout most of the first half and carried a 17-point advantage into halftime behind 15 points from Luka Samanic and 12 from Brandon Williams.

Trailing 78-65 with 4:10 to go in the third quarter, the Go-Go were able to close the quarter on a 9-2 run, punctuated by Kyree Walker's banked-in jumper at the buzzer, to cut the lead to six heading into the fourth. The game went back-and-forth as Capital City chipped away at the lead, eventually tying the game at 101 on a Jordan Goodwin corner jumper with 1:57 remaining. With under 30 seconds to go, Goodwin intercepted a pass that led to a Craig Sword layup, giving the Go-Go their first lead of the game with 17 seconds remaining. Capital City was able to ice the game with free throws down the stretch.

Goodwin led all scorers with 30 points, 20 of which came in the second half. All four other Go-Go starters also scored in double-figures, as Jaime Echenique grabbed Capital City's first double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Kyree Walker added 15 points off Capital City's bench in the effort.

Westchester also saw all five starters score in double-figures, including three 20+ point scorers in Brandon Williams (23), MJ Walker (22) and Tyler Hall (20). Luka Samanic added 15 points, but left the game due to injury and did not play the second half.

Capital City and Westchester will meet again tomorrow night, once again at the Entertainment and Sports Arena. The game will tip off at 7:00 p.m. and will be simulcast on NBCSW+ as well as Monumental Sports Network.
