Greensboro Falls to Birmingham

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) - The Greensboro Swarm, the NBA G League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, dropped the second game of the season opening back-to-back to the Birmingham Squadron (New Orleans Pelicans affiliate) 97-94 in overtime on Saturday at the Fieldhouse at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex. The Swarm had six players in double figures, led by Vernon Carey Jr.'s 15 points on 7-of-13 shooting.

The Swarm (0-2) had the final possession of the game and the opportunity to win at the buzzer but a Jalen Crutcher 3-pointer was just off the mark and a two-minute overtime period ensued. A single basket was made in overtime, a Jared Harper triple, which was enough to seal the victory for Birmingham (2-0). Harper had a game-high 27 points to lead Birmingham.

The thrilling finish made for an entertaining game where the Squadron rallied back 16 points in the second half to stun the Swarm. Greensboro was plagued by turnovers in the game, racking up 28 which resulted in 32 points for the visitors and laid the foundation for the comeback.

The Swarm shot 48 percent as a team with 25 assists on 35 baskets. Joining Carey Jr. in double digits was Arnoldas Kulboka (14 points, six rebounds), Scottie Lewis (13 points), Cameron McGriff (12 points, seven rebounds), Xavier Sneed (11 points) and Crutcher (10 points, five assists). JT Thor had a notable seven points and 10 rebounds in 34 minutes as well.

Birmingham's starting five all scored at least 10 points. In addition to Harper, Malcolm Hill had 19 points to go with nine rebounds, Zylan Cheatham added 13 points and nine rebounds while Joe Young and John Petty Jr. each scored 12.

The game completed the season series between the two teams.

Greensboro returns to action on Wednesday, November 10, at 7:00 p.m. at the Fieldhouse when the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (Houston Rockets affiliate) visit.
