
McClung Sparks Comeback as South Bay Beats Ignite

EL SEGUNDO - The South Bay Lakers played their first game since March 11, 2020, as they beat the G League Ignite, 112-105, on Friday evening. Mac McClung led the Lakers (1-0) in scoring with 24 points and Chaundee Brown Jr. added a 23-point, 10-rebound double-double in the winning effort. Dyson Daniels paced the Ignite (0-1) with a team-high 22 points
The Ignite got off to a big lead as they held a 42-28 advantage after the first quarter. Jessie Govan scored 12 points in the first to give the Ignite the early lead. Elijah Cain put up seven points in the first quarter to keep South Bay within striking distance. The Ignite held a 10-point lead at the half, 70-60, thanks to eight second-quarter points from Pooh Jeter. Cain finished the first half with 12 points for South Bay.
McClung got going in the third quarter, scoring 10 points in the third frame alone, as the Lakers cut the deficit to nine, 94-85, through three. In the fourth quarter, it was South Bay's defense that helped secure the win, as they held the Ignite to just 11 points and just 5-of-20 shooting from the field.
Daniels was one of five Ignite players to score in double figures, followed by MarJon Beauchamp who picked up a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double. Govan finished the night with 16 points, Malik Pope added 14 points and Jeter led the second unit with 15 points in 27 minutes.
McClung put together a final line of 24 points, six rebounds, nine assists and one block, while Brown Jr. finished with 23 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block. Cain contributed 19 points, six rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block, and Paris Bass led the bench unit with 18 points, seven rebounds, one assist and one block. Cameron Oliver also scored in double figures for South Bay with 15 points, seven rebounds, six assists, three steals and two blocks.
South Bay will host the G League Ignite again on Wednesday, November 17 at 7:00pm from the UCLA Health Training Center.
