SAVANNAH, GA - The Savannah Sand Gnats scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to break a 1-1 tie on their way to a 3-1 win over the Rome Braves Tuesday night at Historic Grayson Stadium. The win, combined with Augusta's 4-3 loss in Charleston, moves the Gnats back into a tie for first place with the GreenJackets with five games to play in the season's first half. The Gnats finish the half with four games at Augusta Thursday-Sunday that will help decide the first half champion.

The Gnats won their third straight game and their seventh in their last eight contests.

With the score tied at 1-1, with one out and runners at second and third in the bottom of the seventh inning, 1B Michael Fisher blooped a single into shallow centerfield. It easily scored DH Nick Santomauro from third to give the Gnats a 2-1 lead. While 2B Alonzo Harris was thrown out at the plate on the play, Fisher alertly hustled up to second. SS Wilmer Flores followed with a clean single into right field to chase home Fisher and put Savannah ahead 3-1.

Gnats' starter Jimmy Fuller yielded just one unearned run in 6.2 innings. Erik Turgeon picked up the win with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief and Michael Powers induced three groundball outs in a 1-2-3 ninth for his seventh save.

The Gnats scored the game's first run in the fourth inning when 3B Jefry Marte tripled down the left field line to drive home LF Juan Lagares.

Savannah looks for the series sweep Wednesday at 7:05 pm. The Gnats will send the reigning two-time SAL Pitcher of the Week, Mark Cohoon (6-1, 1.44) to the mound against Rome's David Hale (1-5, 5.98). The pregame show on News/Talk 630/WBMQ and sandgnats.com begins at 6:50.
