A checked swing resulted in a game-winning bases-loaded walk as the Lakewood Blue Claws beat the Lexington Legends 2-1 in 10 innings Tuesday night in Lakewood.

With the score tied 1-1 and one out in the bottom of the 10th, Lakewood's Keoni deRenne drew a walk from Lexington reliever Wander Alvino. deRenne went to third on a single by Jiwan James. Jonathan Villar was intentionally walked to load the bases. Leandro Castro flied to short right field for the second out, and the runners held.

On a 3-2 count, Jonathan Singleton started to swing, but held up. The pitch was called a ball, and on an appeal, the ruling was that Singleton did not swing, and the walk forced in the winning run.

The Legends had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the eighth inning. Grant Hogue led off with a double, was sacrificed to third by Jose Altuve and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jiovanni Mier.

Lakewood tied the game in the ninth on a ground-rule double by Leandro Castro and a single by Sebastian Valle.

Ebelin Lugo (2-1) got the win. Alvino (3-1) took the loss. Lexington starter Tanner Bushue pitched the first five innings, and allowed no runs on five hits, with one walk and five strikeouts. Lakewood's Brody Colvin worked the first eight innings, allowing one run on eight hits while striking out eight batters and walking none.

Lakewood has won the first two games of the series, which concludes with a 7:05 p.m. Wednesday.
