Tampa, Fla. - The New York Yankees have announced that infielder Gleyber Torres will begin a Minor League Rehabilitation Assignment with the Class-A Advanced Tampa Tarpons.

The 21-year-old is scheduled to play tonight in Dunedin, when the Tarpons play a series-finale against the Dunedin Blue Jays at Dunedin Stadium at 6:30 p.m. Torres has been on the disabled list since July 5th with a right hip strain.

The Venezuela native originally made his Yankees organizational debut with High-A Tampa in 2016, batting .254 (31-for-122) with 19R, 6 doubles, 2 triples, 2HR, 19RBI and 16BB in 31 games after being acquired in a trade from the Chicago Cubs.

Following an off day on Sunday, the Tarpons will return to George M. Steinbrenner Field to begin a seven-game home stand against the Bradenton Marauders on Monday at 6:30 p.m. Torres is expected to be with the club on Monday and Tuesday.
