Gleason Sets Keys Record With 25th Save

The Keys scored five runs with two outs in the second inning and hung on for the win in a 6-4 victory over Wilmington on Friday night. In the win LHP Nathan Moreau registered his league-leading tenth win while closer Sean Gleason set a Keys single-season with his 25th save of the year.

The night was not all positive for Frederick however as after making a leaping throw in shallow left on a fantastic backhand play deep in the hole at short, Keys SS Manny Machado left the game with Athletic Trainer Pat Wesley to his side. Machado went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI's prior to the injury.

It was Machado who provided the decisive hit. In the second inning trailing 1-0, the Keys put together a two-out rally. They got three consecutive hits - the last of which from C Justin Dalles to ties the game. RF Steve Bumbry then walked to load the bases and 2B Jonathan Schoop walked to bring home the leading run. Next up was Machado, who on a 1-2 pitch laced a double to right-center field clearing the bases and putting the Keys on top 5-1.

The Keys got two strong innings of scoreless relief from Justim Moore after the Blue Rocks had battled within 6-4. In came Gleason with two men on and one out in the eighth inning. Gleason dominated, setting down all five batters he would face to secure the win and his record earning save.

Dale Mollenhauer had three hits on the night. Frawley Stadium, open since 1993, had the second largest crowd in its history, hosting 7,514 for the contest.

The Keys continue the four-game series in Wilmington on Friday, July 15th at 7:00 p.m. with LHP Nathan Moreau on the hill looking for his 10th win of the year. Frederick returns home for a week long homestand with a Tote Bag giveaway to the first 1,000 fans on Friday, July 22nd. It is Going Green Night presented by the Frederick Department of Solid Waste Management.
