Gladiators Sign Case and Colbert

The Gwinnett Gladiators have agreed to terms with defenseman Matt Case and Will Colbert for the 2010-2011 season.

Case joins the Gladiators for his first full professional season this year. He skated with the Ferris State Bulldogs last season. He earned 17 points (four goals, 13 assists) in 40 games. The defenseman played two games in the American Hockey League with the Norfolk Admirals last year following his senior season. In two AHL games, Case posted one assist.

The Plymouth, Minnesota, native played four seasons at Ferris State from 2005-2010. The 6-foot, 185-pound defenseman recorded 47 points (11 goal, 36 assists) in 144 career collegiate games.

Colbert split time in his first professional season last year with the Kalamazoo Wings and the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League. He earned nine points (four goals, five assists) in 37 games with Kalamazoo and had an assist in one Kelly Cup Playoff game with the Wings. He also recorded one assist in 19 AHL games with Worcester.

The Arnprior, Ontario, native skated four seasons for St. Francis Xavier University from 2005-2010. He posted 53 points (12 goals, 41 assists) in 109 career collegiate games with St. Francis Xavier.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound defenseman was twice drafted, first in the 7th round with the 228th overall pick by the Ottawa Senators in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and in the 6th round with the 183rd overall pick by the San Jose Sharks in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

The Gwinnett Gladiators open the 2010-11 season on the road before returning home to host the South Carolina Stingrays on Friday, October 22nd at 7:35 p.m. The Gladiators are the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
