Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings are proud to announce that they have renewed their affiliation agreement with the Vancouver Canucks for the 2010-11 season.

Salmon Kings' General Manager and Head Coach Mark Morrison worked along side the Canucks' President and General Manager, Alternate Governor Mike Gillis as well as their Vice President of Hockey Operations and Assistant General Manager Laurence Gilman on the affiliation renewal. This will mark the fifth year of the partnership between the two clubs. The affiliation officially began July 18, 2006.

"We are very pleased to continue our partnership with the Vancouver Canucks," Morrison said. "Over the last few years the Canucks have become considerably more invested in the relationship between our organizations, and this has been apparent by their presence at our games and around the team itself. This allows our players to seek counsel and instruction that will help lead to their ultimate goal of a career in the NHL."

"We are pleased to announce our continued relationship with the Salmon Kings, a team that shares the same commitment to winning and player development as we do," said Gillis. "Our continued partnership with the Salmon Kings allows us to clearly identify and establish long-term goals for the development of our prospects. We have had an excellent working relationship with the Salmon Kings and are excited about working alongside this club to continue to promote the growth of hockey in British Columbia."

The Salmon Kings renewed their affiliation with the AHL's Manitoba Moose on June 14th. This will also be the fifth year of partnership between Victoria and Manitoba. The Moose are the AHL affiliate for the Canucks.

"To partner with both the Canucks and Moose again this season is a natural fit for our club," Salmon Kings' President Dave Dakers said. "All three organizations strive to attain championships on the ice, be a model franchise in their league and community leaders in their respective cities. We are proud to be apart of this affiliation chain."

The Salmon Kings kick-off the 2010-11 season with two exhibition contests versus the UBC Thunderbirds on Saturday, October 9th and Sunday, October 10th. Admission is by donation to the TLC Fund for Kids, while hotdogs, popcorn and medium pop are available to purchase for only $1 each!
