Gladiators Acquire Defenseman from Ontario

DULUTH, Ga. - The Gwinnett Gladiators announced on Tuesday that they have acquireddefenseman Matt Clune from Ontario in exchange for defenseman Sacha Guimond.

Clune, 24, has proved to be a dependable blue-liner for the Reign the past two seasons. In 31 games with Ontario this season, Clune has a goal and four assists, going along with a +4 rating and 66 penalty minutes. Last season, the Toronto, Ontario-native had two goals and 13 assists in 69 games, and was fourth on the team with a +24 rating.

Prior to his time with the Reign, Clune spent four years at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. In his 140 games as a Crusader, he totaled 14 goals and 39 assists, with 186 penalty minutes and a +33. Also of note, Clune's older brother, Richard, is a currently a forward for the Nashville Predators.

Guimond, 22, played in 28 games with the Gladiators this season, scoring a goal and five assists. After a strong offensive year with the Gladiators and San Francisco Bulls last season, he was named the 2012-13 ECHL Defenseman of the Year, aswell as an ECHL First Team All-Star, and member of the ECHL All-Rookie Team.

The Gladiators are members of the ECHL, the nation's premier "AA" hockey league and are affiliated with the Phoenix Coyotes of the NHL. All home games are played at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
