Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
THIS PAST WEEK:
About Last Friday Night vs. South Carolina: A pair of goals by Jack Downing proved to be the difference as the Cyclones fell to the Stingrays by a 4-1 final score in front of 5,793 at U.S. Bank Arena. Hometown hero and Cyclones fan Josh Hutcherson, one of the stars of the popular Hunger Games franchise, was on hand to drop the ceremonial first puck on his very own bobblehead night. Unfortunately for Hutcherson and the home crowd, the Cyclones dropped their second straight game in a battle against the top team in the Eastern Conference.
About Last Thursday Night vs. Elmira: Anthony Luciani scored twice in a back-and-forth affair, but the Cyclones were unable to rally and fell to the Jackals by a 5-4 margin in front of 1,184 at U.S. Bank Arena. Five different Jackals lit the lamp in the contest and net minder Maxime Clermont, who stopped 25 of the 29 shots he faced in the tilt, played well enough to snap the team's three-game losing streak.
About Wednesday Night vs. Gwinnett: Anthony Luciani earned his second professional hat trick on a four-point night as he helped propel the Cyclones over the Gladiators by a 5-1 final score in front of 2,233 at U.S. Bank Arena. With their tallies, Luciani, Paul Crowder, and Jonathan Hazen each extended their point streaks to four consecutive games.
SHOTS FROM THE POINT:
The Second Half Begins: After a week of rest, the Cyclones will kick off their second-half schedule with a home-and-home series against the Wheeling Nailers. On Saturday night, the two teams will meet at U.S. Bank Arena on Fireworks Night presented by CBTS. Then on Sunday afternoon, the clubs will battle at WesBanco Arena with a 3:00pm opening face-off.
Luciani's Luster: Third-year forward Anthony Luciani has been among the hottest players in the ECHL over the last month. He notched seven points (5g, 2a) in just three games last week to earn the league's Player of the Week award. Luciani is on pace for a career-year in offense. Cincinnati is 16-3-0 when he finds the score sheet.
A Half to Remember: This year's group was one of the best first-half teams in club history. In fact, only the 2007-08 team finished with a better record through 36 games. That season, the Cyclones went 25-8-1-2 (73.6%). The 2013-14 squad was 23-11-1-1 at the official halfway point.
