Vancouver Giants News Release
The Vancouver Giants are about to embark on the longest road-trip in franchise history after playing three entertaining games this past week against Western Conference opponents.
Last Wednesday, the Giants skated to a 3-3 overtime tie in Kamloops against the Blazers. Mitch Bartley scored a pair of goals for Vancouver, giving the team just their second tie of the year.
Friday night, the Giants returned home to defeat the Tri-City Americans 3-1 at the Pacific Coliseum. Andrej Meszaros, Mitch Bartley, and Gilbert Brule scored on a night which saw Vancouver out-shoot the Americans 29-16. It was also the Giants first win of the season against Tri-City.
Saturday, the Giants played one of their most physical games of the year, but fell 2-1 to the WHL-leading Kelowna Rockets. Adam Courchaine had the lone goal for Vancouver on the power play while Gilbert Brule's assist in that game put him into a tie for the lead in the WHL scoring race (28g,38a=66pts.). More than 11,300 fans took in the game Saturday night which was the second largest crowd of the season at the Coliseum.
The Giants remain in third place in the WHL's B.C. Division with a record of 26-21-2-2=56 points. Vancouver finishes off the month of January with a record of 7-7-1-0 and now are set to begin a six-game trip spanning 14 days through the WHL's Central and U.S. Divisions.
