
Giants' Top Pick Set to Join Salem-Keizer

The San Francisco Giants top draft pick in the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft, Bryan Reynolds, was assigned to Salem-Keizer on Thursday and will immediately join the club in Hillsboro.
The Giants used their first pick in the draft, a second round selection (59th pick overall), to select Reynolds, a center fielder from Vanderbilt University. The 6-4, 215-pound junior hit .330 (74-for-224) with 32 extra-base hits and 57 RBIs in 62 games for Vanderbilt in 2016. He was nominated as a Second-Team All-SEC player and finished second in the conference with 13 home runs and 49 walks. Reynolds was also third on the team in runs scored with 59, and he amassed 135 total bases for the Commodores.
During his freshman campaign, Reynolds led Vanderbilt's 2014 National Championship team in batting average (.338) and slugging (.480). He was named to the Freshman All-American Team by Baseball America.
Reynolds, a native of Brentwood, Tennessee, was impressive during the 2015 summer in the Cape Cod League, hitting .346 (28-for-81) with 17 runs scored and a .459 on-base pct. with the Orleans Firebirds.
The Volcanoes return home on Monday, July 4 for a five-game set against the Vancouver Canadians.
