Giants Kick off Home Stand with a 12-4 Victory against Tri-City

Vancouver, B.C. - The Vancouver Giants kicked off their five-game home stand with a record-setting performance. Tuesday night at the LEC the Giants set a franchise new single-game record with 12 goals scored in a 12-4 decision over the Tri-City Americans. 17 Giants found the scoresheet, and 12 of them had multi-point games as the Giants (23-20-3-2) earned their fourth straight victory. Tyler Preziuso and Michal Kvasnica each scored twice while Cole Shepard led all Giants skaters with four points (all assists). For the Giants it was their fourth win in a row.

1st Period:

TC - Sasha Mutala (18) put Tri-City ahead 1-0 off a quick shot off a faceoff.

VAN - Tyler Preziuso (18) answered with his 18th of the season on a power play at 13:18.

VAN - Holden Katzalay (3) struck at 14:25 on a forehand deke in close to make it 2-1.

VAN - Bowen Byram (5) wired a shot home from the left-wing point with 1.7 seconds left on the clock to make it a 3-1 lead for Vancouver.

Shots: 12 - 3 Vancouver

2nd Period:

VAN - Tristen Nielsen (23) extended the lead to 4-1 off a shot from atop the left-wing circle.

*Tri-City pulled goaltender Mason Dunsford in favour of Ronin Geraghty.

VAN - Milos Roman (16) made it 5-1 for Vancouver on a wrap-around at 2:57.

VAN - Justin Sourdif (16) struck from the right-wing circle at 4:15 to make it a 6-1 Giants lead.

TC - Samuel Huo (10) knocked home his own rebound at 4:56 to give Tri-City their second goal.

VAN - Connor Horning (5) made it 7-2 Vancouver in close along the left-wing at 18:59.

Shots: 22 - 8 Vancouver

3rd Period:

VAN - At 8:13 of the third period, Kaden Kohle stuffed a backhand shot home on the power play to record his first WHL goal. 8-2.

TC - Former Giant Jadon Joseph (9) scored on a breakaway at 9:23 making the score 8-3.

VAN - Michal Kvasnica (5) responded 32 seconds later for the Giants at 9:55, giving the Giants a 9-3 cushion.

VAN - Tyler Preziuso (19) then finished off a two-on-oh rush with Jackson Shepard at 10:33 to give the Giants a 10-3 lead.

TC - Sasha Mutala (19) snagged the final goal of the game for Tri-City on a power play at 14:03.

VAN - Michal Kvasnica's (6) second goal of the night came off the rush at 14:31, to help the Giants match their previous single-game high for goals. 11-4 was the score.

VAN - Seth Bafaro made it 12-4 Giants on a power play at 17:10, giving the Giants a new single-game record for goals.

NOTES:

Prior to tonight, the Giants had twice scored 11 goals in a WHL game: November 18th, 2011 vs. Victoria and on February 3, 2010 against Lethbridge.

Since the January 10th trade deadline the Giants power play is now 17/39 (43.6 percent).

The Giants finished with a 3-1 record against Tri-City this season and were 2-0 against them at home.

The win pushed the Giants two points up on Kelowna for third place in the B.C. Division and also moved them to within six points of Victoria for second place with one game in hand.
