Vancouver Giants News Release

For the 2nd time in 3 games, the Vancouver Giants fall 2-1 in enemy territory, losing this time to the Victoria Royals Friday night at the Save On Foods Memorial Centre. The Giants are now 3-2-0-0 vs. the Royals this season, both losses coming on the road.

Both teams had their chances early on, but it would be the Royals who capitalized as Robin Soudek beat Adam Morrison, banging in a rebound, to give the home side a 1-0 lead through 20 minutes.

The Giants didn't waste any time getting the equalizer; 2:35 into the second period Cain Franson beat Keith Hamilton on a breakaway for his 4th goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1. However, just 20 seconds later Brendan Persley restored the one goal lead to make it 2-1 Victoria after two periods of play.

The Giants outshot the Royals 16-11 in the third period and 34-26 overall, but they were only able to beat Hamilton the one time. The Royals netminder made 33 saves to earn first star honours, leading Victoria to a 2-1 victory. Vancouver was strong on the penalty kill, killing off all 7 Royals opportunities, but they went 0-for-4 on their own power play. Morrison made 24 saves in a losing cause. Despite the loss, the Giants have allowed only 13 goals in their last 7 games.

These two teams will be back in action tomorrow night at the Save On Food Memorial Centre for the 6th meeting of the season. Game time is 7:05 pm. The pregame show begins at 6:30 pm on AM 650.
