SAN BERNARDINO, CA - The San Jose Giants were held to five hits and didn't have a baserunner after the sixth inning in a 4-2 loss to the Inland Empire 66ers on Friday evening at San Manuel Stadium. Three Sixers pitchers combined to set down the final 12 San Jose hitters of the contest as Inland Empire evened the series at a game apiece. With the loss, the Giants fell to 3-3 this season.

C.J Hinojosa (2-for-4, 2B) was the only San Jose hitter to finish the game with more than one hit.

The 66ers used a pair of clutch two-out run-scoring hits against Giants starting pitcher Andrew Suarez to build a 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the first, Angel Rosa and Jose Briceno delivered back-to-back one-out singles to put runners on the first and second. Zach Houchins followed by grounding out before Caleb Adams stepped to the plate and belted a double to deep right field plating both runners for a 2-0 Inland Empire advantage.

Suarez recovered to throw scoreless second and third innings to keep the deficit at two runs. The left-hander had retired seven out of eight Sixers hitters before running into trouble in the bottom of the fourth. Adams led off with a single before Jeff Boehm drew a walk. Michael Strentz flied out to left for the first out and then Trevor Allen reached on a fielding error committed by Brandon Bednar at second base. However on the play, confusion on the base paths resulted in two Inland Empire runners ending up at third base and after a rundown, Boehm was tagged out for the second out. Adams was safe at third on the play while the hitter, Allen, moved into second. Ryan Sebra then grounded a single through the hole on the right side scoring both Adams and Allen to make it 4-0.

Suarez (0-1) was saddled with the loss after surrendering four runs (three earned) on six hits over four innings. He walked two and struck out five during his 79-pitch outing.

Meanwhile, 66ers starting pitcher Jeremy Rhoades began his night with five scoreless innings. The Giants left a runner in scoring position in the first, second and fourth innings against Rhoades before finally breaking through in the top of the sixth. Hinojosa led off the sixth with a single before Chris Shaw doubled to deep center putting runners on second and third with none out. Aramis Garcia was up next and he grounded out to second plating Hinojosa with the first San Jose run of the night. Shaw moved to third on the play and then scored when the the following hitter, Steven Duggar, also grounded out to second. The two runs in the inning cut the Inland Empire lead to 4-2, but the Giants wouldn't manage another baserunner for the remainder of the game.

66ers reliever Brian Loconsole retired all six batters he faced over the seventh and eighth innings before Eduardo Paredes tossed a perfect 1-2-3 top of the ninth to seal the Inland Empire victory.

Rhoades (1-1) earned the win after limiting San Jose to a pair of runs (both earned) on five hits over six innings. He walked one and struck out five.
