LANCASTER, Calif. - Dean Deetz tossed six strong innings to lead the Lancaster JetHawks over the High Desert Mavericks, 2-1, on Friday night at The Hangar to even the series at one game apiece.

Deetz (1-0), making his first start and second appearance of the season, was on his game from the outset. He retired the first six batters he faced and allowed just four hits, no walks, and struck out four.

Eric Peterson followed with a pair of shutout innings out of the Lancaster bullpen, facing the minimum, and Riley Ferrell earned his second save of the season with a shutout ninth, stranding the tying and go-ahead runs on base. Ferrell struck out a pair in the frame, including Juremi Profar to end the game.

The JetHawks (3-3) opened the scoring with a single run in the fourth. With one out, Ramon Laureano doubled, advanced to third on a passed ball, and came in on Nick Tanielu's sacrifice-fly. After High Desert (6-3) tied it in the top of the fifth, the JetHawks went ahead for good in the bottom of the inning when Kristian Trompiz delivered an RBI single. Trompiz now has three RBI in the first two games of this series and leads the JetHawks with five this season.

The JetHawks and Mavericks continue their four-game series tomorrow night at The Hangar. Akeem Bostick (0-0) will start for Lancaster against David Ledbetter (1-0). First pitch is at 6:05 p.m.
