LANCASTER, Calif. - The Lancaster JetHawks pitching staff held down the High Desert bats once again, as they took their second straight from the Mavericks, 3-2 on Saturday night at The Hangar. Over the last two games, the JetHawks (4-3) have allowed just three runs and 12 hits.
Lancaster starter Akeem Bostick allowed just two hits and no runs, but came one out away from qualifying for a win. He walked four and struck out three in 4.2 innings. Kevin Comer (1-1) struck out three over the next 2.1 innings to earn the win. Angel Heredia allowed a run in the eighth, but pitched a perfect ninth and picked up his first save.
The JetHawks led from wire to wire. In the second, Drew Ferguson led off with a single and later came around to score on an RBI double by Marc Wik. Ferguson had two hits in the game and is now 4-for-6 in the series.
The first three Lancaster batters reached in the third, as they extended their lead. Bobby Boyd led off with a single and Garrett Stubbs was hit by a pitch. After a double steal, Laureano came up with his two-run single on a sharp ground ball up the middle.
High Desert (6-4) came up one run short for a second consecutive night. They stranded five base runners in the first three innings against Bostick and were 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position on the night.
The JetHawks and Mavericks conclude their four-game series tomorrow afternoon at The Hangar. Josh James (1-0) will start for Lancaster against Cole Wiper (1-0). First pitch is at 2:05 p.m.
