Oshawa Generals News Release
Oshawa, Ontario - It took overtime and a shootout, but the Generals got the job done Saturday night. Oshawa beat Kingston 4-3 in front of 4,447 fans at the General Motors Centre. Christian Thomas scored twice and Kevin Bailie made 31 stops in the win. With Peterborough and Belleville both losing Saturday, the Generals now stand alone, 6th in the Eastern Conference. Kingston wasted no time getting on the board in the first period. Sitting at the edge of the crease, Trevor Morbeck accepted a pass from down low. Morbeck poked the puck past Generals' goaltender, Kevin Bailie, giving the Fronts the 1-0 lead. Midway through the frame, Oshawa's special teams killed off a Kingston 2 man advantage and kept the Generals in the game. Bailie was big in goal and made an impressive right pad save on a shot that had bottom corner written all over it. Near the end of the period, Oshawa caught a break. Fronts' goaltender, Jacob Riley, played the puck right onto the stick of Christian Thomas who made no mistake. Thomas hammered home his 24th of the season in to an empty cage at 17:53, tying the game at 1. At the end of the second, Daniel Maggio put the Gens ahead 2-1. Working on a Generals 4-on-3 power play, he faked a slap shot, backing up Kingston's defenders. Maggio walked in from the blue-line and ripped a low hard wrist shot that fooled Riley stick side. Oshawa sought insurance early in the third. Andreoff stormed the slot and released a barrage of shots that Riley stopped but couldn't control. Camped to the side of the net, Thomas hopped on the rebound and buried his 2nd of the night at 9:39. Oshawa had the 3-1 lead. The cushion was short lived. Just 13 seconds later, Ryan Kujawinski drew Kingston to within 1 with a backdoor tap in. At 11:05, Darcy Greenaway erased Oshawa's lead altogether with a power play backhand from the slot. The shot wrapped around the twine of the net knotting the game at 3. The game was destined for overtime, but the extra frame solved nothing, and in the ensuing shootout, Bailie was a perfect 2/2 vs. Kingston shooters. Andreoff and Laughton both struck for Oshawa: Laughton's glove-side backhand was the goal that drove the Generals in to the winner's circle. Christian Thomas, Kevin Bailie and Scott Laughton drew the three star selections. Oshawa outshot Kingston, 41-34. Oshawa's game-filled weekend wraps up tomorrow night, Sunday February 12th, vs. the Niagara IceDogs at the General Motors Centre. Niagara's line-up includes 5 of Boone Jenner's Team Canada teammates. Start time is 6:05 PM.
