Flint Generals News Release
Flint, MI - The Flint Generals of the United Hockey League announce the signing of forward Mike Kinnie. Kinnie is expected to be in the Generals lineup this weekend when the team hosts Rockford twice and Port Huron.
Kinnie, 24, played the 2004-05 season with the Generals, his first season of professional hockey, and registered 81 points on 37 goals and 44 assists in 72 games. Near the end of that season he was called up by the Rocherster Americans of the American Hockey League and appeared in six regular season games and five playoff games. Because of the season he had with Flint, he finished second in the voting for UHL Rookie of the Year for the 2004-05 season.
Last season Kinnie played about half the year with Flint. In just 36 games for the Generals he totaled 47 points on 24 goals and 47 assists. Kinnie will enter his third season of professional hockey when he takes the ice this weekend with the Generals. He has 128 points in 114 regular season games.
Before beginning his professional career, the Shelby Township, MI native played three seasons at Ferris State University. In 103 games with Ferris State, Kinnie scored 60 points on 29 goals and 31 assists. His best college season was 2002-03 when he had 30 points on 15 goals and 15 assists in 42 games.
"Mike is a very dangerous offensive player." stated General Manager Al Sims. "He should make an impact with our club immediately. We were looking for some help offensively and with Kinnie and the recent additions of Tony Tuzzolino and Terry Marchant, we feel we have one of the better scoring lineups in the UHL."
In other recent transactions, the Generals waived forwards Justin Kinnunen and Marc Norrington.
The Generals play three games at Perani Arena this weekend. The Generals host Rockford on Friday and Sunday and Port Huron on Saturday. Tickets can be purchased for all Generals games at the Perani Arena box office, or by calling 810-742-9422.
