Oshawa Generals News Release

Oshawa, Ontario - December 4th, 2011 - Oshawa retired their yellow 75th Anniversary jerseys in style Sunday night. The Generals pounded East Division rival Peterborough 9-1 in front of 4,172 very satisfied fans at the General Motors Centre. The win made Oshawa a perfect 4-0 vs. the Petes this season. Oshawa is also undefeated in December going 2-0 this weekend at home. Andy Andreoff had two goals and Christian Thomas had four assists in the win. Five Generals had multi-point games, and Peter Hermenegildo scored his first goal as a General in the victory.

The Generals hit the ice in the first with the intensity of storm troopers and scored 5 unanswered goals, all at even strength.

Kyle Hope set the tone on the first shift of the game launching a warning missile at Andrew D'Agostini, a blast that rattled directly off of the Peterborough goaltender's cage. Emerson Clark officially got the party started at 2:40 continuing his transformation into Mike Bossy by splitting the defence and backhanding the puck through D'Agostini's legs.

The Generals insured their lead shortly thereafter: Andy Andreoff sifted through Peterborough's defence, undressed the Petes goaltender and potted the 2-0 marker at 11:10. Oshawa wasn't even close to finished!

Scott Sabourin had a strong defensive period turning Peterborough's forecheckers into stamps along the boards, and at 12:46, he joined the goal parade ripping a snap-shot from the off-wing that knocked D'Agostini out of the game.

Mike Morrison came on in relief of D'Agostini, but he didn't fare much better surrendering two more goals including Peter Hermenegildo's first as a General. Christian Thomas found a trailing Hermenegildo at 17:46 and the Gens defenseman wired it through Morrison like the goaltender was a ghost. Thomas had three helpers in the opening frame including Andreoff's second of the period at 18:25.

Generals starting goaltender, Kevin Bailie, was steady in the back end steering point shots to the corners and freezing anything even remotely dangerous near the crease. Heading into the second, the Generals had a whopping 5-0 lead!

The sun continued to shine on the Generals in the second period: for Peterborough, the game couldn't get any uglier. Oshawa added two more to their total including Boone Jenner's 15th of the season and a beautiful power play goal where Scott Laughton put the finishing touches on a Tic-Tac-Toe passing play one-timing a slap shot from the slot. D'Agostini was back in the net for both goals - it didn't matter who the Petes put out there, no-one could stop the bleeding.

Bailie had more of an opportunity to flash his goaltending chops between Oshawa's pipes in the second period. Exhibit A was a brilliant right pad save on Matt Puempel who fired from the bottom of the circles on a Peterborough power play early in the middle frame. Bailie outdid himself making a lightning quick left pad stop on a Petes shorthanded scoring chance minutes later. After two periods of play, the Generals reached the home stretch up by a touchdown.

With a win all but assured at the start of the third, only two real questions remained: would Bailie record a shutout and could Andreoff complete the hat trick? A two man advantage helped Peterborough ruin Bailie's shutout bid at 6:17 when Austin Watson rifled a howitzer off the left post and in from point blank range. Though Andreoff didn't score his third, he assisted on Lucas Lessio's 14th sending a beautiful cross-feed through the crease that Lessio tapped home for an 8-1 lead. Maggio added another and when all was said and done, the Generals were 9-1 winners and outshot Peterborough 44-29 on the night.

Andy Andreoff, Christian Thomas and Peter Hermenegildo were the first, second and third stars of the game.

Kevin Bailie made 28 stops in his second win of the weekend.

Oshawa hits the road to the Great White North next weekend making stops in Sudbury and Sault Saint Marie. Friday December 9th's game vs. the Wolves starts at 7:35 PM and can be seen live on Rogers TV Durham.

The Generals are back in town Friday December 16th when they take on the Plymouth Whalers at the General Motors Centre. Faceoff is at 7:35 PM.
