Oshawa Generals News Release
The Oshawa Generals couldn't hold off the Barrie Colts in overtime as they fall 5-4 to head coach Todd Miller's former team.
Oscar Olausson scored twice, including the game-winner in overtime to secure the victory for the Colts. With the overtime loss, Oshawa's season record falls to 5-3-1-2 through 11 games.
Barrie jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after goals by Evan Vierling and Oskar Olausson. Brett Harrison began the comeback for Oshawa, scoring after receiving a great pass from Ty Tullio. With the assist, Ty Tullio's point streak extends to 11 straight games to begin the season.
Twenty-nine seconds later, Ryan Gagnier beat goaltender Matteo Lalama, tying the game 2-2 just halfway through the first period. The goaltenders would then get into a groove for the remainder of the period, keeping the score tied after 20 minutes of play.
In the second period, it was the Generals who came out ready to play, as Ryan Stepien scored 47 seconds in off a brilliant pass once again from Ty Tullio, giving Oshawa their first lead of the game.
Around the halfway mark of the 2nd, Luca Marrelli was called for high sticking. The penalty ended up being a major, and the Generals had to kill off a 4-minute penalty.
The Generals penalty killers worked endlessly, doing a great job at getting into the passing lanes and blocking shots. An effort that didn't go unnoticed by Todd Miller.
"Our penalty kill came up huge tonight," said Miller about the long penalty kill. "The players on this team know that to play on our penalty kill, they have to block shots, and they took that to heart tonight."
However, Barrie would score twice in the period's final four minutes. First, star defenceman Brandt Clarke tied the game off a beautiful one-timer off a pass from Chris Grisolia. 26 seconds later, Cooper Matthews converted off a turnover by Lleyton Moore to give the Colts a 4-3 lead heading into the final frame.
Ryan Stepien once again came up clutch for Oshawa, tying the game just 5:21 into the third period to tie the game 4-4. That score would hold up for the rest of the period, as this game would require overtime to decide a winner.
In overtime, it was Oskar Olausson with a great shot that beats Leaver short side to win the game 5-4. It was Olausson's ninth of the season and second this game, helping improve the Barrie Colts to 5-5-1-0 on the season.
The Oshawa Generals will be back in action Sunday night as they host the visiting Sudbury Wolves; puck drop is scheduled for 6:05 pm.
