Erie, Pa. - Four goals by the Oshawa Generals in the third period handed the Erie Otters (0-4-0-0) a 7-4 loss in their home opener at Tullio Arena Saturday night.
Four point nights by Boone Jenner (2g, 2a) and Lucas Lessio (1g, 3a) led the way for the Generals, who have defeated the Otters in four out of the last five match-ups between the squads.
Greg McKegg gave the Otters their first lead of the season with a power play goal ten minutes, 42 seconds into the game. The captain went top shelf on Dan Altshuller for his second goal of the season.
The Generals quickly tied it up thanks to the first of Jenner's goals a minute and 23 seconds later. Oshawa took the lead a minute and 37 seconds into the second as Nicklas Jensen tallied his first of the season.
Nick Betz scored his first OHL goal to tie the game for the Otters at six minutes, 35 seconds. The Michigan native shot the puck off the end boards and put in his own rebound to make it two-all.
Colin Suellentrop put the Generals back in front with four minutes, 12 seconds left to play in the second, but Sondre Olden brought the Erie crowd to life with his second goal of the season. The Norwegian shot a seeing-eye puck through traffic with 94 seconds remaining in the period to make it 3-3 heading into the third.
Unfortunately for Erie, the third period continued to be a source of trouble as the Generals scored one minute, 45 seconds into the final period to take the lead for good after Jenner's second goal of the game. Three more goals would follow for Oshawa before Brett Thompson scored with 8.8 seconds left to close out the night's scoring.
Rookies Betz (1g, 1a) and Travis Wood (2a) each had two point nights for Erie.
The Otters return home for back-to-back games against the defending OHL champion Owen Sound Attack Friday and Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available by calling 452-4857 or online at ottershockey.com.
