Oshawa Generals News Release
Kingston, Ontario- A strong third period from the Generals saw them score three unanswered goals to defeat the Kingston Frontenacs 5-2 in front of 3,576 at the K-Rock Centre, pushing their game-winning streak to 6. Boone Jenner continued his dominance over the Kingston Frontenacs, leading the way for the Generals with a hat-trick to push his season total to 44. Justice Dundas (9) and Brian Hughes (8) were the other Generals' scorers. Daniel Altshuller picked up his league leading 35th win, making 31 saves in the victory.
Oshawa was the first on the board, with Justice Dundas jamming the puck past Mike Morrison at the 7:12 mark for his 9th of the year, and the 1-0 for the Generals. With a holding penalty giving the Generals a power play, they wasted no time capitalizing with the captain getting his first of the game. Boone Jenner, who has registered almost 2 points a game versus the Frontenacs, snapped a shot past Morrison for the 2-0 Generals lead.
A physical second period set the tone for the rest of the game, as both teams showed no sign of backing down. Kingston cut the lead to 2-1 with a power play goal of their own, as Spencer Watson received a pass from fellow rookie Sam Bennett before releasing a quick wrist shot that beat the glove of Daniel Altshuller. Oshawa tried to respond shortly after as Cole Cassels sprung Bradley Latour and Scott Sabourin for the two-man breakaway, but a weird bounce prevented the scoring chance from being capitalized on.
The Frontenacs tied the game early in the third, as Ryan Kujawinski streaked down the left side of the ice, surprising Altshuller with a quick shot that beat the Oshawa net minder to make the score 2-2. The momentum was short-lived as Boone Jenner's second power play goal of the game gave the Generals the 3-2 lead with 13:00 minutes left in the period. Jenner wasn't done there however as he scored three and a half minutes later to complete the hat-trick. Brian Hughes added an insurance goal shortly after, receiving a pass from Hunter Smith and ensuring the 5-2 victory.
The Generals outshot Kingston 38-33.
Boone Jenner (3 goals) and Tyler Biggs (2 assists) were named the first and third stars of the game.
The Generals continue on the road, as they make stops in Brampton, Belleville, and Ottawa before returning home to the General Motors Centre on March 17th as they host the Sudbury Wolves. Puck drop is at 6:05pm.
