Generals Gameday: August 29 vs. Jacksonville
August 29, 2019 - Southern League (SL1)
Jackson Generals News Release
The Generals have clinched a postseason berth for the third time in four years! Call the Generals' box office today to ask about tickets for Game 3 of the North Division Series (Sept. 6, 6:05pm) and beyond!
PLAYOFF BOUND! : As of August 26, the Generals have locked up the second playoff spot for the North Division, with Montgomery having already qualified for a berth after winning the North Division in the First Half. More details:
>>Runners-Up For Sure: Entering August 20, the Generals' overall record (71-53) was 14.5 games ahead of Birmingham (56-67) with 13 games to go, ensuring that the Barons would not overtake Jackson for the second-best overall record in the North Division in 2019. When the Barons lost on August 25, they fell 7.5 games behind Montgomery with 7 games to play in the Second Half, eliminating them from playoff contention and securing the Generals' second playoff bid in as many seasons and third in the last four years. As season-long divisional runners-up, the Generals will host at least 1 guaranteed playoff game (Game 3 of the North Division Series), with Montgomery hosting the other four games. Game 3 of the NDS will happen on Friday, September 6 at 6:05pm at The Ballpark at Jackson.
>>The "But What If We Get Hot?" Option: Jackson still has a chance to host 3 games in the North Division Series, but it's small. Entering August 27, the Generals are 4.0 games behind Montgomery in the Second Half, with 6 games to go. If the Generals win enough games to overtake the Biscuits in the Second Half standings, they would earn the right to host Games 3, 4, and 5 of the North Division Series at The Ballpark at Jackson on September 6, 7, and 8 at 6:05pm. Games 4 and 5 would be necessary if neither side sweeps Games 1-3.
Jackson Generals (75-57 Overall, 36-26 2nd Half)
Vs. Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (74-60, 37-27 2nd Half)
Thursday, August 29 | 6:05 pm CT | Game 133 | 2nd Half Game 63
Generals SP: RHP Bo Takahashi (8-7, 3.74 ERA)
Opponent SP: LHP Braxton Garrett (Double-A debut)
SERIES PRIMER: The Generals host the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (AA, Miami Marlins) for the first, last, and only time in 2019. Jackson hasn't seen the Jumbo Shrimp since the season's opening series at Jacksonville in April. Jacksonville took three of five from the Generals in that series, and they will fight even harder now, sitting two games behind Biloxi with five games to go while fighting to win the South Division for the Second Half and earn a playoff berth. Former Generals shortstop Jazz Chisholm returns to The Ballpark at Jackson for the first time, batting .284 in 23 games after being traded on July 31. Top-30 Marlins prospects at JAX: RHP Sixto Sanchez (#1), SS Jazz Chisholm (#4), RHP Edward Cabrera (#7), LHP Braxton Garrett (#8), LHP Trevor Rogers (#9), 1B Lewin Diaz (#13), OF Victor Victor Mesa (#14), RHP Jorge Guzman (#17), OF Brian Miller (#25),
LAST GAME: Pensacola, Fla. - The Jackson Generals, the Double-A affiliate of Major League Baseball's Arizona Diamondbacks, lost their series finale against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos on Tuesday, 3-2. The loss for Jackson (75-57) at Admiral Fetterman Field kept the Generals from winning the series; Pensacola (74-60) took the season series as well, 6-4.

TODAY'S MATCHUP: Jackson's Bo Takahashi hasn't faced the Jumbo Shrimp this year: his one previous start against Jacksonville was suspended in the first inning on April 6 before he ever took the hill. Takahashi's latest work has been promising: He's allowed 7 earned runs over 17 2/3 innings this month, and he managed to avoid giving up a homer (a chronic obstacle) in his most recent start against Pensacola (6.0 IP, 1 R). The 22-year-old Takahashi will face 22-year-old Braxton Garrett, who is making his Double-A debut after putting up a 3.34 ERA in 20 starts for High-A Jupiter in the Florida State League.
ALL-STAR 2020: On July 29, the Jackson Generals announced that they would play host to the 2020 Southern League All-Star Game at The Ballpark at Jackson, their first All-Star Game since 2011. Manager Blake Lalli was a participant in that 2011 game, which the North Division won 6-3. (CLICK: 2020 SL ASG release)
