Oshawa Generals News Release

Mississauga, ON - The Generals won 3-2 Friday night in a shootout over the first place Mississauga St. Michael's Majors on the road. Christian Thomas scored the shootout winner bringing the Generals back to .500 on the season before a crowd of 3,104 at the Hershey Centre.

Andy Andreoff made his return to the line-up the after He was assigned to the Generals after signing with the Los Angeles Kings earlier this week. Andreoff looked dangerous on his first shift jamming at a loose puck sitting on the doorstep of Majors' goaltender, JP Anderson.

Oshawa dominated Mississauga in the first period outshooting the Majors

17-7.

For the first time this season, the Generals scored the game's opening goal, Sebastian Uvira smashed home the rebound on a JP Labardo shot from the slot that was too hot for the Majors goaltender to cleanly handle.

Late in the frame, Mississauga tied the game scoring shorthanded when Joseph Cramarossa stripped the point man of the puck, broke in and beat Generals goaltender, Dan Altshuller on the backhand. The score was 1-1 heading into the second period.

The Generals killed off two penalties in the first five minutes of the second period to keep the game tied. The Generals quick sticks took away passing lanes, and the Majors couldn't find a way to make the defence open up.

Altshuller had a busier period and came up with some big saves - among them, a lightning quick right pad stop on a Sergey Kuptsov shot from the high slot.

Oshawa's best scoring chance came on a 2-on-1 when Christian Thomas slipped a pass to Emerson Clark under a diving defenseman. Clark had JP Anderson all to himself, but Anderson was equal to the task giving Clark no net to shoot at. The second period ended knotted at one setting the table for an intense final twenty minutes of play.

In the third, Sebastian Uvira was back on the ice after taking a knee on knee hit the previous period.

Something had to give, and at 8:46 of third period, Boone Jenner put Oshawa in the driver's seat. The Captain made his way to the net and redirected a one timer from the point off the stick of Nicklas Jensen to give the Generals the lead.

Oshawa's 2-1 lead lasted until 17:44 when Majors' left winger Spencer Cobbold found a bouncing puck in the slot and lifted it over an outstretched Altshuller. The game headed to overtime with the score tied 2-2.

The overtime period saw many good chances both ways but neither side could get a goal.

The shootout was screaming for a hero and it found two of them, both were wearing Generals Red. First, Christian Thomas scored the only goal of the shootout knifing the puck into the top left corner right over the shoulder of JP Anderson. Dan Altshuller stopped all three Majors shooters along with 34 saves during regulation and the overtime for his 4th win of the season.

The final score was 3-2 Generals with Oshawa outshooting the Majors 44-36 on the evening.
