Erie Otters News Release

London, Ont. - Down three men throughout most of the game, the Erie Otters (1-7-0-0) held their own against the No. 1-ranked London Knights but fell short of grabbing a point in a 6-4 loss at John Labatt Centre Friday night.

Sondre Olden led the way for Erie with a goal and two assists, while Chris Marchese notched the first two-goal game of his career.

The Otters did not get off to the start they had wanted as the Knights scored nine seconds into the game, one of the fastest goals ever scored into an OHL game. Seth Griffith picked up the tally to give the Knights an early lead.

Jared Knight added another after the Knights killed off a penalty, but the Otters were able to get back in the game thanks to a two-man advantage.

Connor Brown continued his hot streak as he scored a goal in his third straight game, knocking in a rebound from an Olden shot with six minutes, 19 seconds left in the first. The Otters trailed the Knights, 2-1, after 20 minutes of play.

Olden then tied the game after Brett Cook forced a turnover at center ice and found Olden for a shorthanded breakaway. The Norwegian delivered with a shot through the blocker of Michael Houser at two minutes, 45 seconds of the second period.

The power play then went back to work to give the Otters a 3-2 lead. Olden's shot from the high slot was initially stopped by Houser but Marchese

banged home the loose puck for his third of the season at four minutes, 14 seconds.

Just as the Otters had scored three straight on the Knights, their opponents did the same in a span of three minutes and three seconds as the Knights took a 5-3 lead into the second intermission.

Marchese added his second of the game midway through the third after Travis Wood found the winger with a great pass down the right wing, and Marchese was able to smack in his own rebound to put the Otters within one.

Despite a late power play opportunity, the Otters could not get the equalizer as the Knights tallied an empty net goal with 31.7 seconds remaining to grab the win.

Tyson Teichmann took the loss as he made 24 saves, but was relieved by Chris Festarini after the second period. Festarini was perfect with 13 saves in the third period.

The Otters return home Saturday night as they host the Windsor Spitfires. The first 1,000 fans receive a Sondre Olden poster courtesy of Erie County Recycling. Fans can purchase tickets through the Erie Civic Center Box Office, online at OttersHockey.com or by calling 814-452-4857.
