Oshawa Generals News Release
The Oshawa Generals faced the Belleville Bulls tonight in the second matchup of a home and home weekend for the two teams. The Generals were coming off of a 5-2 win over the Bulls last night, and were looking for another two points tonight. In what proved to be a very exciting game, the Generals did in fact earn another two points in front of 5232 fans at the GM Centre tonight.
The game was fast paced from the start and the Generals dominated the first period physically and offensively. The Generals outshot the Bulls 15-6 during the first period, but no goals could be put past Bulls veteran goaltender, Charlie Graham. The first period was not short on penalties, Oshawa receiving four penalties and the Bulls receiving three. Despite the power play opportunities, neither team could find the back of the net. The period ended scoreless.
The first Generals goal of the night was scored by Hunter Smith assisted by Michael Dal Colle and Tobias Lindberg on a Generals power play. Despite opening the scoring, the Generals had a tough second period as Belleville scored three goals, one from Remi Elie, another from Brett Welychka, and the third from Adam Laishram, Tension was high throughout the period and the Bulls were on a 5 on 3 power play for a whole two minutes. Despite a solid effort, the Generals couldn't prevent a goal with only three men on the ice. The period ended with the Generals trailing the Bulls 3-1 and being outshot 12-7.
A huge shift took place in the third period and within the first two minutes of the period Oshawa cut Belleville's lead. Michael Dal Colle scored only 1:16 into the period, the goal assisted by Anthony Cirelli and Will Petschenig. Only 15 seconds later, Cole Cassels made it an even game, scoring a goal assisted by Bradley Latour and Hunter Smith. The Generals outshot the Bulls 14-5 in the third period and the final 20 minutes of the game had zero penalties.
The game came to an end with the Generals and Bulls tied 3-3. The teams headed into overtime, which wrapped up with no more goals on the board for either side. This resulted in both teams having to decide who would take the ice for their shootout. Belleville had the first shot and Brett Welychka couldn't put it past Appleby. Dal Colle shot next, it was no goal. Stephen Harper followed and scored the first Bulls shootout goal. Tobias Lindberg was up next for the Generals and also couldn't put it past Appleby. The next three shooters for Belleville were Tomasek, Subban and Marchment, none of whom could put it past Kenny Appleby. Cole Cassels scored the first successful shootout goal for the Generals, followed up by no goals from Chris Carlisle and Sam Harding. Each team scored one more in the sixth round of the shootout, goals were scored by Michael Cramarossa and Josh Sterk. Both Remi Elie and Bradley Latour were unsuccessful in the seventh round. In the eighth and final round of the shootout, Niki Petti had no goal and Mitchell Vande Sompel scored the game winning goal for the Generals, securing their second consecutive win over the Bulls.
