Jackson Generals News Release
JACKSON, Tenn. (August 27, 2013) - The Generals closed the book at home with a 4-1 victory over the Chattanooga Lookouts (23-41) thanks to a four-run sixth inning and terrific pitching. With the win, the Generals take the season series and current series, finishing the year 11-9 against Chattanooga. Jackson had a hit in every inning except the first, but for the first time in five games, failed to out-hit the opponent. The Generals won their third straight game and gave Cam Hobson his first Double-A victory in his second start.
Both teams had chances offensively, but both starters slipped their way out of trouble. Cam Hobson (W, 1-1, 2.25) made his first and only home start of the season and proved durable. The left-hander was called up due to injuries last week, but was good through his six innings of work. Hobson did allow seven hits, but only one run, a home run, combining that with five strikeouts and a walk.
Jackson had a hit in every inning except the first and chances were aplenty. The home team finally broke through in the sixth as Chris Taylor (0-3, BB, R) started the inning with a walk and then Jabarai Blash (2-4) extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a single. John Hicks (2-3, BB, RBI, R) broke the seal with a sharply hit grounder past the third basemen to score Taylor and tie things at 1-1.
Jackson was not finished with the sixth. Steven Proscia (0-3, BB, R) and Hicks both scored when Leon Landry (1-4, 2 RBI) roped a single up the middle and Dan Paolini (0-2, BB, R) followed it up by scoring on a wild pitch. Jackson had three hits and four runs in the frame.
Chattanooga extended their home run streak to 13 games with Griff Erickson's solo shot in the fifth. James Jones (3-4, BB) made his second start since coming off the disabled list last night, but got his first hits tonight with his 25th multi-hit game of the season. Nick Hill (2.17) made an appearance for the second straight night but left with the bases loaded after getting only one night. Stephen Kohlscheen (2.40) picked Hill up though with back-to-back strikeouts to leave the bases loaded in the top of the seventh. He finished with three strikeouts in total through 2.2 innings earning his second save.
Jackson has an off day on Wednesday and returns to action at 6:43 p.m. (CT) in Huntsville against the Stars on Thursday. The Generals will go through the rotation for a final time and give Anthony Vasquez (1-4, 4.45) the ball. He will go against Drew Gagnon (4-8, 5.58), who is 1-0 in one start against Jackson this season. The game can be heard on 96.5 ESPN Radio, TuneIn Radio App. and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
