
David Holmberg to Make Major League Debut

Mobile BayBears starting pitcher David Holmberg has been called up by the Arizona Diamondbacks to make his Major League debut in San Diego where he will start tonight's game against the Padres. Holmberg got the call late Monday night and was scratched from his scheduled start in Kodak, Tennessee.
The Diamondbacks game is scheduled to start at 8:40 p.m. CDT, and can be viewed using MLB.tv.
Holmberg is one of the Southern League leaders in innings pitched with 152.1 in 25 games played (25 games started). The southpaw is 5-7 with a 2.66 ERA with 115 strikeouts.
This is his fifth professional baseball season and his second with the Mobile BayBears. Holmberg was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2009 First Year Player Draft by the Chicago White Sox. He was acquired by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2010 along with pitcher Daniel Hudson for pitcher Edwin Jackson. Overall he has a 3.39 ERA in 108 games (101 games started) with 597.2 innings pitched and 538 strikeouts.
The 22 year-old joins the short list of BayBears who have made the jump from Double - A straight to the Majors. The list includes current Major Leaguers Justin Upton, Mark Reynolds, Paul Goldschmidt and Jake Peavy.
Holmberg is the first BayBear directly called up to the Diamondbacks this season, and the third BayBear of the season to play in the Majors. Pitchers Zeke Spruill and Chaz Roe started their Diamondback seasons with the BayBears and were called up to Triple-A Reno and have each been promoted to the Diamondbacks multiple times this season.
