Generals add Spirit

FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals of the United Hockey League continue to bring a strong contingent of players to training camp for preparation for the 2004-2005 season. Today, the club announces the signing of defenseman and former Saginaw Spirit defenseman Adam Sturgeon effective immediately. In keeping with club policy, terms of the agreement shall not be disclosed.

Sturgeon joins the club for this, his second professional season. Still a rookie, Sturgeon appeared in 11 games with the United League's Richmond Riverdogs collecting 2 goals, 2 assists for four points and 9 penalty minutes. The 20-year-old native of Erin, ONT spent the last two seasons as a member of the Ontario League's Saginaw Spirits.

"Sturgeon is a young defenseman who is still developing his game and will continue to improve," said Vice President & Head Coach, Robbie S. Nichols. "He is not afraid to be physical. Defenseman really need to be tough, physical and smart. When he joined Richmond last season he made an immediate contribution to their team. We think Sturgeon can be a diamond the in rough and a very talented defenseman for the Generals."

The Flint Generals return to action hosting three exhibition games on Thursday, October 7, 2004 against the Port Huron Beacons at 7:05 p.m. The Generals host the Jr. Generals in a benefit exhibition on Friday, October 8, 2004 at 7:35 p.m. The Beacons return for the final exhibition contest on Saturday, October 9, 2004 at 7:35 p.m. All games to be held at Perani Arena.

The regular season campaign begins on Friday, October 14, 2004 as the Generals host the Muskegon Fury at 7:35 p.m. at Perani Arena. Season tickets for the 2004-2005 regular season campaign are on sale at TicketMaster at Perani Arena.
