
Gary Payton II Named NBA G League Player of the Week

EL SEGUNDO - South Bay Lakers guard Gary Payton II has been named the NBA G League Player of the Week for games played Monday, December 9, through Sunday, December 15, the league announced today.
Payton II averaged 30.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 10.0 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.3 blocks while shooting 58.7 percent from the field and 90.9 percent from the free throw line as South Bay tallied a 2-1 record for the week. The point guard recorded a point-assist double-double in all three games to up his total to 11 double-doubles on the season.
In South Bay's win over the Northern Arizona Suns on Friday, Payton II scored a season-high 37 points (14-28 FG) with nine rebounds, 10 assists, two blocks and one steal. He finished with 30 points (14-20 FG), seven rebounds, 10 assists, three steals and one block in South Bay's win against the Warriors on Tuesday. He also tallied a double-double against the Kings on Sunday, tallying 25 points, seven rebounds, 10 assists, one steal and one block in 29 minutes.
Through 14 games (13 starts) this season, Payton II is averaging 20.3 points (.567 FG%), 9.1 rebounds, 7.0 assists, a league-leading 3.1 steals and 1.1 blocks in 31.5 minutes.
