Gary Overcomes Early Blasts to Even Series

LINCOLN -- Brandon Jacobs and Curt Smith hit back-to-back homers in the first but the Gary SouthShore RailCats (46-43) came back to clip the Saltdogs (47-41) 6-5 in front of 5,726 fans at Haymarket Park Wednesday afternoon.

In front of more than 3,000 excited fifth graders on LPS Day, Jacobs launched a two-run shot to left, his 10th, followed almost immediately by Curt's towering drive to center, his 16th.

After falling behind 4-0, Gary scored two in the fifth and tied the game with two in the eighth on consecutive two-out infield singles.

Jarred Mederos laced a two-out, 0-2 pitch to right to plate the go-ahead run in the ninth, giving Gary its first lead.

The loss was just the seventh in 40 games when the Saltdogs held the lead after six innings.

The 'Dogs lead Gary by 1 1/2 games and Sioux City by 1/2 game atop the Central (prior to Sioux City's game Wednesday night at Sioux Falls).

The rubber game is Thursday night at 6:35 p.m. RHP Matt Larkins will get the start for Lincoln against RHP Charle Rosario. Radio coverage begins at 6:05 p.m. on KFOR FM 103.3/1240 AM, with online streaming action at AmericanAssociationBaseball.TV.
