Saints Re-Sign 15-Game Winner Kramer Sneed

ST. PAUL, MN - Following a two-week stretch where the St. Paul Saints have lost three pitchers to Major League organizations, the rotation finally got some good news with an addition instead of a subtraction. Looking to recapture the magic of the 2015 season, the Saints have re-signed left-handed pitcher Kramer Sneed. He becomes the third player from last year's record-breaking squad to return to St. Paul in the less than a week, joining Player of the Year, catcher, Vinnie DiFazio and infielder Ryan Cavan.

The 27-year-old Sneed spent most of the season playing in the Mexican League pitching with two different teams. He signed with Yucatan back in February and went 6-4 with a 2.87 ERA in 15 starts. In 87.2 innings he walked 26 and struck out 60 while opponents hit just .239 against him. On July 8, he was traded to Monclova, where he went 3-1 with a 5.08 ERA in 6 appearances (5 starts). In 28.1 innings pitched, Sneed walked 12 and struck out 13 and held opponents to a .273 average.

Sneed was one of the most dominating pitchers in the American Association with the Saints in 2015, going 15-3 with a 2.84 ERA in 20 starts. His 15 wins tied the American Association record for most wins in a season, matching the mark set by Josh Lowey of Wichita in 2012 and equaled by Patrick Johnson of Sioux City last season. In 127.0 innings of work he walked 39 and struck out 81 while posting a WHIP of 1.25. Sneed pitched at least 6.0 innings in 15 of his starts and gave up two runs or less in 14 starts. He finished fifth in the league in ERA.

Sneed got the ball for game one of the playoffs last season and was dominant despite taking the loss. He hurled an 8.0 inning complete game allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits while walking two and striking out a Saints playoff high 13.

Before joining the Saints, Sneed started 2015 in the Angels organization, pitching in one game at Double-A Arkansas where he tossed 4.0 shutout innings of relief before being released. In 2014, he spent the entire year at Double-A Arkansas and went 8-11 with a 4.68 ERA in 28 games (26 starts). In 138.1 innings pitched he walked 66 and struck out 109 while opponents hit .255 against him.

Sneed was originally drafted by the New York Yankees in the 32nd round of the First Year Player Draft out of Barton College in 2010. In his first two years he was promoted during the season, going from the Rookie Gulf Coast League to Short Season A in 2010 and from the Single-A South Atlantic League to the High-A Florida State League in 2011. In 2011 he struck out 51 in 39.2 innings pitched and had a solid WHIP of 1.25.

Just before the 2013 season Sneed was traded to the Angels organization, along with OF Exicardo Cayones and cash, for Vernon Wells. Sneed spent most of the time at High-A Inland Empire where he was a California League All-Star. He went 7-4 with a 4.09 ERA in 16 starts. In 81.1 innings pitched he walked just 23 and struck out 73.

The Saints also placed infielder Sam Maus on the inactive list, retroactive to August 17.

Sneed will make his first appearance of the 2016 season for the Saints on Wednesday night against the Wichita Wingnuts at 7:05 p.m. The Saints now have 21 players on their roster, two below the league maximum, nine pitchers and 12 position players.
